Thoracic Disc Repair and Decompression Surgery

In this procedure, the provider repairs a herniated thoracic disc. The provider decompresses the nerve roots or spinal cord by removing all or a portion of the herniated disc. The provider uses grafts to fill the empty space created by removing the disc. The herniation of a thoracic disc occurs less often than in other segments of the spine. A thoracic herniation causes pain which, depending on the type of herniation, may concentrate in the upper back, radiate to the chest or abdomen, or result in myelopathy, the inflammation and swelling of the spinal cord.
