Surgical Removal of Lower Jaw Cancer
A malignant, or cancerous, tumor of the mandible, or lower jaw bone, is removed in an open surgical procedure. The provider may use either an intraoral approach, through the mouth, or an extraoral approach, through the skin. For an extensive tumor, the provider performs radical dissection, surgically removing the blood supply and lymph system surrounding the tumor for laboratory analysis.
