Surgical Approach for Skull Base Lesions

The provider accesses the middle cranial fossa using an infratemporal (below the temporal fossa) preauricular (in front of the external ear) approach, sometimes called the transparotid approach, to expose a lesion or defect at the base of the skull. The approach can also include a mastoidectomy, resection of the sigmoid sinus and/or decompression/mobilization of the auditory canal or petrous carotid artery. The selection of a particular approach will depend on the location and size of the lesion. Choose a location to see hospital-reported price summaries.
