Repair of Congenital Heart Defect with Baffle

In this procedure, the provider surgically repairs a cardiac defect present from birth, by constructing a baffle or tunnel from the pericardium or the atrial wall that directs the deoxygenated blood to the left ventricle and the pulmonary artery, and directs the oxygenated blood to the right ventricle and the aorta. The provider places the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass during this procedure. This procedure is also called a Mustard or Senning procedure.
