Pancreatic Islet Cell Transplantation for Diabetes
The provider transplants pancreatic beta islet cells from the patient’s own pancreas or a donor source to stimulate insulin production in a patient with diabetes. The provider infuses the cells into the portal vein of the liver through a tube that the provider inserts through a small skin incision in the abdomen.
