Pancreas Retrieval and Transplantation from Donor

In this procedure, the provider removes the pancreas from a cadaveric, or nonliving, organ donor. The provider may include a segment of the duodenum, the first portion of the small intestine. The provider preserves the donor pancreas in a liquid maintained at a carefully controlled cold temperature until the time of transplantation in a recipient patient with pancreatic failure.
