Neck spine fusion for persistent pain

The provider performs arthrodesis, also known as spinal fusion, in the neck, to permanently join two vertebrae, the interlocking bones of the spine, to alleviate persistent pain caused by a herniated, or bulging, disk, or other spinal condition. The provider makes an incision in the front of the neck, removes disk material, excises bony protuberances, and releases pressure on the spinal cord and nerve root. The provider performs this procedure on an additional vertebra after performing the procedure on one or more vertebrae in the same encounter.
