Meibomian Gland Assessment with Transilluminator
The provider uses a special device called a transilluminator that inverts the eyelid and shines a near–infrared light through the eyelid, and a camera that captures high–resolution images to assess the meibomian glands, sebaceous glands at the edges of the eyelid that secrete an oily substance that prevents evaporation of tears and keeps the surface of the eye from becoming too dry. The provider assesses one or both eyes, interprets the images, and prepares a report. Choose a location to see hospital-reported price summaries.
