The provider revises a previous simple mastoidectomy and converts it to a total mastoidectomy. The provider also removes diseased mastoid mucosa or cholesteatoma, if present. The provider performs the procedure because the prior procedure failed to produce a dry ear, which results in recurrent otitis media accompanied by accumulation of pus, eardrum perforation, and recurrent or residual hearing loss.
