Hip Socket Surgery for Pain Relief

In this procedure, the provider performs acetabuloplasty in which the provider surgically modifies the shape of the acetabulum, a cup–shaped socket of the hip joint. The provider also resects, or cuts out the femoral head. The aim is to alleviate pain in a patient with a severe hip infection or in a patient whose bones cannot tolerate reconstruction of the joint.
