Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries Repair

In this procedure, the provider surgically repairs a cardiac defect present from birth, in which the aorta arises from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery arises from the left ventricle, by constructing a baffle or tunnel from the pericardium or the atrial valve that directs the deoxygenated blood to the left ventricle and the pulmonary artery, and directs the oxygenated blood to the right ventricle and aorta. The provider places the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass, during the procedure. The provider also removes a band from around the pulmonary artery that was placed during a previous surgery.This procedure is also known as a Mustard or Senning type procedure.
