The provider performs balloon dilation (widening) of the biliary duct or surgical repair and reconstruction (sphincteroplasty) of the ampulla of Vater (also known as the hepatopancreatic ampulla, the union of the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct). The provider performs this procedure using image guidance, such as fluoroscopy, an X–ray technology that displays live images on a video monitor.
