Assessing Protein Levels in Body Fluids
The lab analyst performs immunoelectrophoresis, IEP, to evaluate a patient’s body fluid other than serum, such as urine or cerebrospinal fluid, with concentration, for the amounts and types of certain proteins, called immunoglobulins. The body produces immunoglobulins, also called antibodies, that activate as part of the immune response to neutralize specific invaders such as bacteria or viruses.
